Owner Comments:
Its the 7th sailboat I've owned since 1989 and probably my last. Think I'll use it for a Viking Funeral when I kick off. When I bought it a year ago I considered naming it Ajax Jr. in memory of Wally Schwenk and his Santa Cruz 40 from some years back. Finally settled on Mellow Yellow since it is more reflective of my sweet and aged personality!
Maury Fink and I towed the boat up from Tacoma on a single axle trailer when I took delivery. At the very crest of the Berenson Bridge coming into Anacortes the left trailer wheel bearing seized, the wheel came off and rolled by Maury's pickup doing about 40 mph. Fortunately the boat stayed on the trailer and was not launched over the railing into the Swinomish Slough some 70 feet below. A kind lady tracked down the wheel from a field about a quarter mile ahead, delivered it to us and we then dragged the boat and trailer into the fireworks parking lot by the casino and in a couple of days we had a new axle under the trailer and all was well. Maury and I are slowly rebuilding our supply of luck since it was totally used up that day on the bridge! Just imagine if the accident had happened under the Seattle Convention Center on I-5!
