Cooking Duties

Ok, here’s the deal…

  1. Generally, you’ll be bbq-ing, but you don’t HAVE to… you could use the oven or stovetop.  Plan on shopping for and serving 100 people.
  2. You’ll do your own shopping, and use your own money up front.  You will pay yourself back with the money you collect. Save your receipts!  There are envelopes in the bar to put in receipts and profits from the night.
  3. We have 10 +/- vegetarian sailors on any given night.  Make sure you have a vegetarian option.  I also hear that vegetarian food should be prepared and cooked separately from any meat.
  4. Dinner costs $5/plate, keep that in mind so that you do not overspend.
  5. Check the yacht club before you go shopping and see what we already have on hand.  Make sure there are paper plates and napkins, etc.
  6. If you run out of propane for the bbq (or if you can tell it’s super low)… tell someone!  Preferably the vice commodore.
  7. You are in charge of cleaning up afterward.  Please clean off the grill surface, wipe down the serving table, do the dishes, and take out the trash.  The trash goes to the port dumpsters.
  8. It is best to have someone on your cooking crew start early at the yacht club and not go racing.  It’s really hectic to run from the boat to the yacht club and try to be ready in time.  It is great to have a friend or neighbor help out in the kitchen.  The bartenders will be there to open the door.
  9. Have fun with it and be creative! Evidently, burgers are getting less popular with our sailing crowd… but with some creative toppings people would enjoy them.
  10. Try to use up all the food you purchase, or sell to-go boxes.  If you are cooking early in the year and it’s a cold and rainy night, you might want to just purchase food for 50 people.  Last year, we had lots of leftover food during the first few cold rainy Wednesday nights.
  11.   Thank you for helping.  We would all be very hungry without you!
