Marks

Starting with the 2009 racing season, the Anacortes Yacht Club installed a series of eight (8) permanent race marks in Fidalgo Bay which are used in conjunction with other government marks located in the bay.  Each of these marks is assigned an identifier (say for example N, SE, T2, etc) and their position is described in the following charlet:

Based on the prevailing winds the race committee will determine the location of the start/finish line (which may utilize one of the fixed marks) and the course.  In nearly all cases the buoy racing course will be windward-leeward using two of the fixed marks.  For example, the race committee may set a start line using R2 with a windward mark of SW and a leeward mark of NE.

Windward-leeward races consist of one lap (called course one) or two laps (called course two) around the designated course.  After starting you must not go through the start-finish line unless finishing - this means the start-finish line acts like an obstrution and you can call for room if you need to stay out!
