REAL-TIME RACE RESULTS

The Northern Century is held each year at the end of August and is the Anacortes Yacht Club's premier distance event.   2011 will be the fourth running of this great event and as before we are planning three separate races:

1. Double-handed mono-hull
2. Fully-crewed mono-hull
3. Double-handed multi-hull

The race is approximately 100nm in length and starts on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Fidalgo Bay, heading north to Point Roberts, down Boundary Passage, then south through Haro Strait to Hein Bank and returns to Anacortes with a finish at the west entrance of Guemes Channel.   Double-handed entries start at 1930 on Friday, August 26 followed by fully crewed entries at 1940. It will likely take most competitors until Saturday night to finish and perhaps later.

If you have never done an overnight event or a distance race of this length, this is the one for you!  The course is interesting with many sights to see, plus most boats will be well outside the shipping lanes during the night making for an enjoyable & relaxing passage.

The race is open to all yachts that are current PHRF-Northwest members and who have registered on-line.  The cost is $50.00 per boat before August 15 and $75.00 thereafter.  Your entry fee includes a complimentary dinner Friday night for you and your crew, plus your SPOT transceiver rental.  Event shirts are $20.00 each with various sizes available.  The event is a PIYA Category II event and is governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012, except as changed by the sailing instructions.

Note that the top 3 overall finishers in Race to the Straits; the 1st place finishers in each course of Southern Straits and Swiftsure; plus the 1st place finishers in each division of the Van Isle 360 get FREE registration at this event (dinner & SPOT transceiver rental included).
