Rules

All Anacortes Yacht Club (AYC) Races are governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 including U.S. Sailing Prescriptions (RRS), as modified by the 2010 Race Packet and the sailing instructions (if any) printed for the event.

It is required that all yachts comply with Pacific International Yachting Association (PIYA) minimum equipment requirements. All buoy races are PIYA category III and all distance races PIYA category II. All boat owners and skippers are required to complete the "Certification of Category" form and keep a signed copy on board.  It is also strongly recommended that each yacht inspect their first aid kit for full supplies, update all flares to current date requirements for US Coast Guard compliance, and meet all other applicable regulatory requirements.

Because many AYC events occur in constricted waters with considerable commercial traffic it is important that the skipper of each boat understand that it is a REQUIREMENT that they not impede commercial traffic. As soon as it is apparent that they might impede commercial traffic it is the skippers responsibility to exit the area immediately, under auxiliary power if necessary. If power is used, it must be reported to the Race Committee at the finish line. A written report must also be made on a protest form, showing the location, time, duration of power use, speed, direction of exit, and that the competitive position of the yacht was not improved. If the last item cannot be demonstrated adequately, a time penalty may be imposed. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in a protest.
